Lagoon Road Mountain Bike Trails, Moreton Bay

Community-Focused Trails for Local Riders**

The Lagoon Road Mountain Bike Trails in Burpengary showcase a modern approach to trail development utilising a compact parcel of land, community-centred, and designed to deliver high social, and environmental outcomes. As demand shifts away from large destination networks, Lagoon Road reflects the growing value of local trails for local people, providing accessible outdoor recreation, youth engagement opportunities, and deeper connection to nature.

Blue Sky Trails partnered with the City of Moreton Bay across every stage of this project, ensuring a seamless progression from concept to construction. Our involvement began in 2021 with the initial feasibility assessment, which confirmed the site’s suitability for mountain biking and established the design parameters that shaped all subsequent planning.

We went on to develop the full Concept Plan, including trail typologies, trail layout, creek-crossing options, staging recommendations and initial budget estimates. This work positioned Lagoon Road as a strategic community trail node, well-aligned with regional planning objectives and emerging recreation trends.

By 2023, Blue Sky Trails led the preliminary and detailed design, undertaking ground-truthing, corridor flagging, GPS capture and GIS analysis. We refined trail alignments to optimise rider flow, safety and environmental sensitivity. Using Trail Vision, we delivered high-resolution mapping and feature documentation that supported a robust construction work-package.

In 2024, we continued as technical advisors during construction, monitoring contractor performance, ensuring sustainable trail-building practices, and completing independent audits to verify the quality of finished works.

The result is a resilient, high-quality community trail network that supports active lifestyles, social connection and everyday access to nature — a benchmark for future localised MTB developments.
